Consistent sleep deprivation is what we mean when we say someone has insomnia. I’ve had a number of sleepless nights where I slept for only a few hours. The amount of sleep I was getting on a regular basis was often less than four hours per night. After exhausting all other options, I finally fell asleep. Sleep apnea was suspected, and I was prescribed a breathing machine to use at night. I tried Tylenol PM.mild nerve medications. I thought I was running out of oxygen because of this device. Insomnia can be debilitating if it persists for an extended period of time.
I was struggling to breathe as a result of that. I was forced to stop using the machine because of the pain it caused me. My lack of sleep was making me angrier, so a friend advised me to give meditation a try. I did some research on the internet and found a slew of ways meditation can benefit a wide range of people. As a result of my research, I came to understand that sleep deprivation can be a sign of a mental health problem.
As it turns out, you can train your brain to operate without sleep.
At night, my thoughts turn to the problems and anxieties I face on a daily basis. I am aware of this. Learning to calm down and accept the fact that I can’t change the circumstances around me has helped me cope better with life’s challenges. Things don’t bother me as much when I get home after a long day. Before I left, I started my meditation and continued it when I got back.
In the morning, I get up 30 minutes earlier than everyone else so that I can spend some time alone. Every morning, I make myself a cup of coffee and head into the kitchen to read a book or newspaper before starting my hectic day. As soon as I get home from work and realize that I’m going to have another sleepless night because of my insomnia, I start getting ready for my night.
Before I go to sleep tonight, I’ll listen to some calming music. On my television, I’ll switch the channel to a music channel so that I can relax. After that, I let myself relax in a hot tub. I don’t wait until I’m out of the tub to go to sleep. Now that my body is at its most relaxed, I immediately retire to my room and go to sleep. I’ve learned that staying awake and watching television after a long day of relaxation only serves to make it more difficult to wind down and drift off to sleep at night.
My meditation, soothing music, and hot bath were enough to relax me, so why should I be annoyed by watching television? A few deep, calming breaths help me drift off to sleep as the fan is turned off in my room. The fact that I now get a few extra hours sleep each night isn’t proof that I’ve been cured of my insomnia and can now sleep for eight hours straight.
In addition, my husband sets the small clock radio to a country station and leaves it on low all night to help him sleep..
You must remember that meditation is simply a means of clearing your mind of thoughts that aren’t relevant to the task at hand. Once you’ve cleared your head of the nagging thoughts, it’ll be helpful.
